About

My name is Rodney Torres and I'm Cuban-American. I have lived in Miami Florida most of my life. I started studying game development in 2024 and in August 2026 I'll be graduating with an AS degree in Game Development and Design. For the last 2 years I have worked on several projects in Unreal Engine 5 and Unity. Now I'm preparing to enter the industry and I'm so excited! I love MMORPG games like Old School Runescape but I have a ton of other games I love to play across multiple genres.

Experience

My college curriculum has focused on Unity projects. In our second year our class worked together on the capstone project Fallen Fate. I was assigned the role of Technical Designer and I designed the boss and the encounter. Then in a team we implemented the boss. I've also made a prototype for a game called Cyber Dragon to showcase for the college capstone project selection.Alongside my college curriculum I started learning Unreal Engine 5. I took on an action RPG course and created the game Warrior. It was in depth and analytical and I learned the fundamentals of UE5 through this project. I then started a project with 2 of my classmates called Grave Keeper. Now we iterate the design of the game as a team and I implement the enemy AI systems.

Unity Experience

The projects I've worked on in Unity are Fallen Fate and Cyber Dragon.Fallen Fate was my college capstone project and I was assigned the role of Technical Designer and later programmer. I designed bosses, boss fights, and implemented them with a team. The second semester our professor reset the project and then I was assigned the role of programmer. For the majority of the semester I reviewed pull requests every week and implemented them.Cyber Dragon was my proposal for the colleges capstone project selection and it was in the top 3 for selection. Unreal Engine Experience

Grave Keeper and Warrior have been my main projects made in Unreal Engine 5.Grave Keeper is a project I started with 2 of my classmates and it is a first person action game. You play as a grave keeper who fights risen undead with his trusty shovel and magical lantern. It follows a similar game structure to Muck. We work together on the design of the game and in our free time we implement it. I have mainly focused on AI systems involving perception and behavior.Warrior was my first step in Unreal Engine 5 which was a course on creating a third person action RPG using C++ and the GAS plugin. I learned the fundamentals of Unreal Engine 5 and how to implement a large variety of systems focusing on long term performance.To visit my Unreal Engine portfolio click the google drive button link below.

Design Experience

I have design work involving creating game design documents and boss encounters.I have a GDD for Grave Keeper and Cyber Dragon. I detail aspects of both games explaining the gameplay flow and mechanics.I've created 2 boss encounters for Fallen Fate and 1 for Cyber Dragon. For Fallen Fate I was given design restrictions and a deadline to deliver them.I plan to work on a level design document for Grave Keeper since I've noticed I need to need more experience writing LDDs.
